Telematics & GPS Tracking
RentBridge integrates with Trackunit telematics to monitor equipment location, usage, and health — synced automatically every 15 minutes.
What Gets Synced
For every unit with a telematics ID, RentBridge pulls from Trackunit:
- GPS position — powers the fleet map
- Engine hours — feeds maintenance predictions automatically
- Fuel level
- Fault codes — engine and equipment warnings surface as maintenance signals
The sync runs as a background job every 15 minutes across your whole fleet. No manual meter readings.
Setup
- Have an active Trackunit account with devices installed on your equipment
- On each equipment record in RentBridge, set the unit's telematics ID (the device identifier from Trackunit)
- That's it — the next sync cycle picks it up
Units without a telematics ID are simply skipped by the sync; everything else about them works normally.
Using a different telematics provider (Samsara, Geotab, Motive, Verizon Connect)? Additional provider integrations are on the roadmap — email support@rentbridge.ai to tell us which one you need.
The Fleet Map
See your whole fleet on a map:
- Every unit with a GPS position appears with its live location
- Status at a glance — available, rented, or in maintenance
- Especially useful for multi-yard operations and spotting equipment that isn't where it should be
Find it under Map in your dashboard.
How Telematics Feeds Maintenance
Synced engine hours flow straight into the maintenance system:
- The maintenance agent's daily fleet check uses real hours, not estimates
- Per-unit AI predictions get sharper because usage data is always current
- Fault codes from the equipment surface as maintenance signals
Data Privacy & Security
- Telematics data is encrypted in transit and at rest
- Location data is visible to your team, tied to your organization only
- See Data Handling for retention details
Coming Soon
- Renter-facing location sharing during active rentals
- Geofence and impact alerts
- Additional telematics providers
Troubleshooting
A unit isn't updating?
- Verify the telematics ID on the equipment record matches the device ID in Trackunit
- Check the device has power and cellular coverage (see Trackunit's dashboard)
- The sync runs every 15 minutes — wait one cycle after fixing
Location looks stale?
- The map shows the last synced position; a parked machine with a sleeping device may report infrequently
- Check the device's last-report time in Trackunit
Hours look wrong?
- Trackunit is the source of truth once connected — a mismatch usually means the device is mapped to the wrong machine
